I’ve been busy with a video storytelling course run by the team that makes the YouTube channel Yes Theory https://www.youtube.com/@YesTheory . I didn’t have to, but I accepted the challenge of posting a video on YouTube every day for 30 days. That’s insane. You can see my progress here: https://www.youtube.com/@theskintexpat-themightygreegor/playlists I’m doing this because I want to make this a hobby. I don’t have my band anymore, or my music equipment (except for a cheap guitar I bought since I’ve been here in Georgia, for the purpose of writing songs and just noodling on). The hope is to post videos more regularly, and maybe with a bit more focus so that maybe I attract more subscribers and maybe more students to the study English page of my website.
That’s no excuse, but it IS why I haven’t posted here in a while. Anyway, here’s this. I know it’s not much, but go ahead and check my progress on YouTube. Bear in mind, though, that I have to post every single day. It’s not just 30 videos in 30 days. I mean, I can’t just make ten videos over the weekend three times and post them. I have to post every single calendar day. The quality is going to be a little uneven, hahaha.
I’m learning a lot, though. I’m getting better at editing, for one thing. I couldn’t do that at ALL in post-production, before this week, so doing one every day is very educational. I might get a lot of good stuff out of this.
I’ll try to remember to post here more often. Maybe at least let you know how the challenge is going. Oh, by the way, I am accepting video topic ideas. 30 is a lot. One every day is a lot. So there you go. For now, I’ll leave it at that. I’m stopping short of making any promises; I am aware of that. I’ll do what I can though.
Thanks for reading.
Hey that’s okay! I’m having fun checking out the videos. Just curious: how long does it take to make one of these, start to finish?
Hey, that’s a good question. It takes a LONG TIME. And the interesting thing is that the length of the final video doesn’t matter much how long it takes to make. Making them involves editing. Longer ones take longer to render after editing, but the most time is thinking of what to say and scripting (which I don’t really do; I just outline), and then the editing. It’s getting easier though because I never learned how to do editing. I found a free program and watched a YouTube video to learn how to use it. This is why I’m glad I accepted the 30 in 30 challenge – by the time I’m done with that, I’ll be up for a freakin’ Oscar. Entirely BTW, new video idea – how much the western world, in particular the Internet, and specifically YouTube, has changed since I’ve been in China. YouTuber is an actual JOB now. That kills me! It takes HOURS to make a video, but it’s slowly getting faster and easier. It’s still not all that easy though.
