Do you find it hard to speak English in public?

And every time you try to do something about it, you either get stuck or can’t even get started.

Don’t worry, you are absolutely not alone. The comedian Jerry Seinfeld once famously pointed out that public speaking was the #1 fear for people, worldwide.

#2 is death. DEATH!

The fear of DEATH was less common than the fear of public speaking. That’s amazing. That means that at a funeral, more people would rather be the person IN the box than SPEAKING ABOUT the person in the box.

This is also taking into account that this is only public speaking in our native language. Make it a non-native language, and you are suddenly facing a nearly insurmountable task.

The problem is, these days, many people are either forced to do just that, giving presentations in front of clients, or worse, prospective clients. Refusing to do so might result in missing out on a raise, the loss of a promotion to someone else, or even the loss of a job. Sometimes it just has to be done.

Watch the video below to learn how you can find a way to cope with this problem, and maybe even use it to your advantage.

ABOUT THE SKINT EXPAT

I have been an expat for more than 30 years now. I’m originally from the United States, though at this point that hardly matters. In that time, I’ve played music with bands and recorded and released solo music, I’ve been an English teacher for most of that time, and now I’m doing a blog about all of it.
