Well, except for this introduction.  One of my students introduced me to ChatGPT (https://chat.openai.com/chat) with the artwork created by DALL-E (https://labs.openai.com/e/qsqis4bGLAOZyQnoLDQh7yOK).  This is….very weird:

Hello, my name is Assistant and I am a large language model trained by OpenAI. I am not a human, but I am able to generate text that sounds like it was written by a human.

Living as an expat on a low budget can be a challenging, but rewarding experience. As an expat, you have the opportunity to live in a new and exciting location, immersing yourself in a different culture and way of life. However, making the decision to live abroad can also be financially daunting, especially if you are on a tight budget.

One of the most important things to consider is your housing situation. Rent can be one of the biggest expenses for expats, so it is important to find affordable housing options. In some cases, you may be able to find a roommate to split the cost of rent, or you may be able to find a more affordable location outside of the city center.

Another way to save money as an expat is to carefully plan your daily expenses. This means being mindful of how much you are spending on food, transportation, and entertainment. For example, you can save money on food by cooking at home instead of eating out, and you can save on transportation costs by using public transportation or walking instead of taking taxis.

In addition to saving money on daily expenses, you can also save money by taking advantage of local discounts and promotions. Many cities offer discounts for tourists and expats, so it is worth doing some research to find out what deals are available. For example, some museums and attractions offer discounted admission prices for expats, and many restaurants offer happy hour specials or other promotions.

Another way to save money is to find ways to earn money while living abroad. This could involve taking on part-time work or freelance projects, or finding creative ways to monetize your skills and passions. For example, if you are a talented writer, you could start a travel blog or offer writing services to local businesses.

Overall, living as an expat on a low budget can be a challenging, but rewarding experience. By carefully planning your expenses and finding creative ways to save money, you can enjoy all the benefits of living abroad without breaking the bank.

Thanks for reading. (Yeah, OK, I wrote this line.)

I know you FAR too well to be fooled by the AI, but in most other contexts it is indeed scary. 😮

ABOUT THE SKINT EXPAT

I have been an expat for more than 30 years now. I’m originally from the United States, though at this point that hardly matters. In that time, I’ve played music with bands and recorded and released solo music, I’ve been an English teacher for most of that time, and now I’m doing a blog about all of it.
